ISB’s Need-Based Tuition Assistance Program

ISB’s need-based tuition assistance program seeks to help families who demonstrate need to bridge the gap between what they are able to contribute financially towards their child’s tuition and the full annual tuition fee.

This program reflects ISB’s core values as a school that values diversity and equity. It is not a merit-based or federal scholarship. ISB does not receive any external funding for its tuition assistance program but considers this as a priority and funds it through its operating budget. While all families are expected to contribute towards tuition, close to 30% of ISB’s families currently receive some form of tuition assistance. Tuition assistance packages may range from 10% to 90% of tuition fees.

Families are eligible to apply for ISB’s Need-Based Tuition Assistance Program regardless of grade level, language background, or language track. However, assistance is weighted towards the Kindergarten through 8th Grade program, and as such, assistance at the Preschool level is very limited. Tuition assistance packages are offered to as many qualifying families as possible, but ISB does not have the means to extend assistance to all families who apply and qualify.

Families should indicate their intention to apply for this program on their child’s admissions application. ISB uses the School and Student Services for Financial Aid to aid in its decision making process.

Timeline: Tuition Assistance Applications will be available October 24th and the deadline to submit is December 31st.

Applicants are notified of tuition assistance packages when admissions acceptance letters are sent in February. If you are applying off-cycle, we recommend that you check with admissions before applying for tuition assistance, as funds may be limited beyond the regular admissions season.

Click here for an application. ISB’s code is 4757. ISB also requires copies of the family’s previous year’s tax returns to be submitted directly to SSS. In cases of separation or divorce, we ask that both parents submit the Tuition Assistance application and required materials.

French Bourse

If your child is a French citizen, you may apply for a need-based Bourse from the French government. Families who are eligible should indicate their interest in applying for the Bourse on their child’s admissions application (Nursery-5th Grade only).

The application for the Bourse is made available by the French Consulate in mid-January and the final decisions for the Bourse are made in mid-summer.

The Buddy Bench is Here!

By Dr. Liz Helbraun, School Psychologist and Lower School Counselor The Buddy Bench is an anti-bullying, pro-kindness initiative to help students find someone to play with during recess times. An American boy saw the Buddy Bench used in his school in Germany and brought the idea to the US when he returned to school here. Now Buddy Benches are being used all over Europe and the United States. I started looking into the Buddy Bench after hearing about it from a mother at ISB. What’s nice about this approach is that it’s very child-directed, rather than adult-directed. It gives our students a tool for helping peers and making friends.
