Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month: The latest in NYC from ISB’s Language Coordinators!

From ISB we would like to help you celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed in the U.S. each year from September 15 to October 15. This year’s national theme is “Diversity United, Building America’s Future Today.”

Cultural Connections Performance: Phyllis Rose Dance Company

Join us in a celebration of Latin and Hispanic Heritage with the Phyllis Rose Dance Company and their interactive performance that features dance, music, folklore and more! Made possible by the Tiger Baron Foundation.

Latino Heritage Month Closing – Culture Show and Party

To end the month of celebrations, a cultural show and party featuring various performances with a Latino twist will commemorate Latino culture. Come dance the night away and immerse yourself in the Latin experience. All proceeds will go to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. 6 p.m. – 12 midnight, Friday, October 12, Aronow Theatre (6 – 8 p.m.) and North Academic Center Ballroom (8 p.m. – 12 midnight). Presented by the Latino Heritage Month Student Committee in collaboration with the Office of Student Life & Leadership Development’s Student Life Activities Program Committee.

Festival latinoamericano de poesía ciudad de Nueva York 2012 (Latin American Poetry Festival, NYC 2012)

City College’s Center for Worker Education is one of several venues for this event. It features poetry readings, lectures, musical and theatrical performances, panel discussions, and round tables by 40 poets originally from Argentina, Brazil, Perú, Colombia, Uruguay, El Salvador, Chile, Honduras, Guatemala, México, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The following events are at the Center for Worker Education, 7th floor, 25 Broadway:

  • Wednesday, October 17, 6 – 9 p.m., Grand Opening.
  • Thursday, October 18, 1 – 3 p.m., Colloquium: “Temas y problemas de la poesía latinomericana actual.”
  • Thursday, October 18, 5 – 3 p.m., Poetry reading.
  • Friday, October 19, 2 – 5 p.m., Colloquium: “Teatro y poesía.”
  • Friday, October 19, 5 – 8 p.m., Poetry reading.

At the Macy’s store in Herald Square
