ISB’s enrichment programs are open to ISB students and the general community (unless it is noted otherwise).

Enrichment Class Descriptions:

Art Adventures: Taught by Lydia Riojas, a Brooklyn art educator for over 30 years. In Art Adventures children develop basic art skills and vocabulary through structured hands on projects, as well as free creative explorations that inspire curiosity and confidence in each child’s use of materials. Projects include basic technique instruction and exposure to painting, frottage, collage, and mark making. Reference and exposure to well known artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Mondrian and other major Western artists will be complimented with artists from Tibet, Japan, Africa and other parts of the world. This provides a rudimentary introduction to the world of art history as it relates to art making.
Aviation Club: Taught by The Hobby Quest. The building and flying of model airplanes has been a popular hobby since the days of the Wright brothers and even before. In The Hobby Quest: Aviation Club, we will build planes from scratch, not starter kits or pre-assembled parts. Each child learns to read plans, work with rulers, make necessary calculations and to distinguish between different hobby tools.
Chess: Taught by the experts of New York Chess & Game Center, classes are tailored to meet children’s interests. Through the incorportation of games, songs and life-sized chess pieces the intricate nature of chess is taught in a manner that will spark curiosity while helping children engage in this classic game.
Circus Arts: Circus students have a blast learning clown routines, juggling, tumbling, tight-rope walking and much more. Taught by the creative movement and clowning master Stephanie Larriere of Brooklyn Beastalk.
Cooking Class: Taught by Taste Buds. The Food Network and Tyler Florence have nothing on Taste Buds, voted “Best Kids Cooking Class” by New York Magazine. Cook up a new and tasty culinary adventure each week as you develop the skills to chop, mix and swirl your way to a food masterpiece. From decadent desserts to nutritious meals, this class will set you up to be a future Top Chef while making friends and rewarding your Taste Buds with new ingredients.
Intro to Drama: Taught by professional dramatics teacher Sophie Amieva, students will enjoy learning theater games and improvisational skills while working on the larger end of the session performances. Dramatic exercises offer a great way for children to interact with one another while letting their personalities shine.
French Drama: Taught by professional dramatics teachers Sophie Amieva. Students will practice dramatic exercises through creating their own stories, characters and scripts. An end of the session performance showcases plays that were designed by the students. This class is open to children with an intermediate or advanced knowledge of French.
Guitar: Taught by EzraGuitar. EzraGuitar is unique in its approach to teaching. It is based on a working group of 4-6 children. Children who study EzraGuitar not only learn to play many songs, but they acquire other important skills such as the ability to read music, hear and play rhythms. These basic skills are the building blocks for further music education. Apart from the musical skills gained fromEzraGuitar children develop: fine motor skills, coordination, self-confidence, improved social skills; such as working in a group and a strengthened learning capacity. ISB Fit: Loco Motion- This high energy class will incorporate movement activities that help children develop their motor skills and spacial awareness. Class activities include: tumbling, throwing and catching, kicking and dance. Open to PreK through 1st grade, Tuesday afternoons-ISB students only.
ISB Fit: Sports Conditioning- Coach Santos is very excited to bring a sports conditioning class to ISB’s young athletes. This class will focus on fine tuning sports skills, endurance and strength training. Students will participate in a mix of independent activities, such as learning how to stretch correctly, as well as team sport activities. Open to 2nd through 5th grade-ISB students only.
Mad Science: Taught by Mad Science® of Brooklyn. Mad Science® is the world’s leading science enrichment provider. This program delivers unique, hands-on science experiences for children that are as entertaining as they are educational. Mad Science is proud to introduce millions of children to a world of discovery while sparking their imagination. Mad Science encourages scientific literacy in children in an age when science is as vital as reading, writing and arithmetic. New cirriculum for the winter/spring semester!
Mandarin: Taught by Lango Kids Brooklyn. The popularity of Mandarin is growing as China’s influence grows in the U.S. and throughout the world. More and more families tell us that they are willing to take on the rigors of learning a language that is wholly unlike English in order to gain the advantage of being able to speak the “language of the future.” Lango has partnered with long-time Mandarin educators and curriculum developers to develop a curriculum that maintains our dynamic, playful approach while respecting the particular challenges of learning this language. *Registration for this class is through Lango Kids Brooklyn directly. Multi-Sport & Game (Spanish & French): Taught by ISB PE teachers Jesus Santos (Spanish) and Nicolas Sale (French), this class will alternate between relay games and challenges to teaching the skill and technique of various sports, such as hockey, soccer and volleyball. Each week will offer a new sports adventure. This class also offers a unique opportunity for children to expand their knowledge of Spanish and French as well as a great way to get exercise at the end of the day! This class is for ISB Students Only.
Petite Ecole & Escuelita (Language Enrichment): Taught by Brooklyn Beanstalk. Brooklyn
RoboFun Lego Robotics & Pre-Robotics: Merging art and science, RoboFun LEGO Robotics workshops allow students to experience the ingenuity of LEGO bricks in a whole new way. Student’s design and program interactive robots using a LEGO microprocessor, LEGO bricks and a variety of sensors. The workshops provide a unique opportunity for kids to utilize creative processes while
learning new skills in problem solving, cooperative learning and critical thinking. You can learn more about the Robofun programs at www.robofun.org.
Yoga: Taught by Bija Kids Yoga. Bija Kid’s philosophy is based on the idea that all seeds or bija (in Sanskrit) have the ability to flourish with proper care and nurturing. Classes instruct children in physical postures (asana), breathing practices (pranayama), and age appropriate meditation technique in a lively and creative setting.
*ISB is a fast growing school with a competitive admissions process. Being a part of ISB Enrichment Programs does not guarantee admissions into our school day program. Enrichment Program families join our regular applicant pool when applying for admission to the school day program.
