The walls have color…and a boiler is installed

The pictures I took when the walls were being painted their base color weren’t so exciting but seeing the wonderful colors, selected by a team of ISB parents, on the walls is very exciting! And, during the month of July, another important project has been underway – the removal of the very old furnace (a coal furnace converted to oil) and installation of a new gas furnace, which is being built in the photo above.
Next week we will make final touches to the classrooms in preparation for the upcoming move! More photos to come soon.

As of the end of last week, the wood floor work was completed. The painters have now arrived and are busy priming the walls. The old, lemony yellow walls that were so pervasive are slowly disappearing. Photos of the new colors to come soon!
Floors Part III and Color Choices

The flooring company has arrived with their big sanding machine and vans full of new wood slats for the floors. Here is an idea of what the floors look like once the glue residue from the old carpets is sanded away. Also, the parents who have been helping to think about color schemes for the school are nearing the end of their work. In this last picture, you can see some of the colors that are in the running. They will certainly make the rooms feel cheerful and full of life.
Floors – Part II

As we went through each room, it became clear that a few of the old wooden floors couldn’t be saved. In these photos, the contractors are tearing up the old floors to install a new sub-flooring. Then, the flooring contractors will come in soon to refinish the old floors and install some new ones.

Phase 1 of the work has almost been completed – patching, scraping, pulling up the old carpet, demolishing old closets, and building new closets. Before we started Phase 1, we were not sure how many of the original wood floors could be saved. It now looks as though almost all of them can be refinished, with just 3 or 4 needing to be redone.
More recycling…donated furniture

Thanks to the generosity of many people and organizations – including this hard working ISB parent and staff member team we were able to connect with a school that was closing its doors and no longer in need of its furniture and pick up an entire truck full of desks and chairs for our classrooms. If we are able to round up another group of volunteers, there are more desks, chairs and many boxes of books that are available to us!
Closets for the classrooms!

The old, peek-a-boo closets have been torn down and the contractors are now building new closets for each classroom, using mostly recycled wood. We are also learning about how to refurbish the slate blackboards, which are in need of some good TLC.
