• What Do We Do •
focuses on building multiculturalism through intercultural understanding, language immersion in Spanish or French, and the implementation of the IB curriculum, a transdisciplinary program of international education designed to foster the development of the whole child. Our program begins with preschool (ages 3–4) and expands though elementary school (Kindergarten–3rd Grade currently, and through 5th Grade by 2011/2012). We plan to add one grade per year as our students grow, and will continue through high school.
ISB offers small student to teacher ratios with teachers who are native speakers of the target language and experienced in the classroom. Through an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning, students are able to explore universal concepts at the local level. ISB’s curriculum draws upon the French, Spanish and American systems, enriching our students’ lives by exposing them to the unique history of many cultures.
ISB also offers enrichment programs for children 18 months to 3rd grade. These programs include playgroups, after school classes and summer camps that expose children to another language or reinforce a language they are already learning. Teachers focus on multi-disciplinary themes that are familiar to children in order to engage them in learning the language as well as the subject.
Beyond our classrooms, ISB connects with many children and adults in Brooklyn through several annual events. We offer an annual French and Spanish Children’s Book Fair, two seasonal festivals and a very popular Children’s International Film Day Program.
