On September 26th, ISB’s Class of 2019 set off for a three-day team building trip at Club Getaway in Kent, CT with teachers Xavier Huc, Jesus Santos, Sara Fernandez Valladares, and Hined Haida.

This trip, which kicks off the ISB Middle School experience, has become an important milestone for our students. They spend the three days enjoying the outdoors and participating in cooperative games and adventure activities while getting to know their classmates. Favorite activities include the vertical obstacle course, archery, the giant swings, the zip line, and, of course, eating s’mores around the campfire after an action-packed day.

“I think that it is important to start the school year like this because everyone gets to rest, have fun, bond with each other before the real hard school work starts.” -Alice

“Club Getaway prepares us to take risks during the school year. We spend the whole time doing activities that are outside of our comfort zone.” –Wade

“I didn’t expect Club Getaway to be so much fun! We shared cabins with people we might not have known so well before.” -Loren

“The trip gets us excited for 6th Grade! I find it fun to go right at the start of the year. It helps you learn the new kids’ names, and they can learn your names. You also get to know some of your new teachers. It’s cool to see how everyone acts outside of school.” –Sundiata

“Many students really had to challenge themselves by facing obstacles that they never thought they would, but they were brave enough to overcome their fears. By the end of this year’s trip, we all decided that a more fitting name for the ISB Club Getaway experience would be “Club Face Your Fears,” because many students did just that!” -Jesus Santos
