Graphic Lives: A Conversation About Drawing Identities
The ISB Library is a truly special place, where our students can find stories from all over the world in three different languages, and our literacy program reaches beyond our PYP and MYP programs. With our Multicultural Book Club and events like this year’s panel discussion “Graphic Lives: A Conversation about Drawing Identities,” Librarians Maria and Amy provide spaces for our adult community to enjoy literature and share in their love of books as well.
Those who attended “Graphic Lives” heard from four amazing artists and graphic novelists, Barbara Brandon-Croft, Lauren Redniss, Emily Flake, and ISB Parent Alessandra Olanow. ISB Parent Andrew Lampert moderated the conversation about topics as diverse as whether the “images or words come first,” “beginning again” at different times in life, how to deal with writer’s block by writing sections of a larger work “as an email to a trusted reader,” and knowing when a project is done, by keeping in mind “when it’s due!” Thank you to our ISB Library Committee and Advancement Office for putting together a night that was full of wonder and enlightening dialogue about identity, art, and the creative process!
