  • Middle School Math Teacher (Start August 2024)

    The ideal candidate is one who understands and enjoys working with adolescents (ages 11-14), who inspires students to love math, and who can break down mathematical concepts clearly and in an age-appropriate manner. Other desired attributes include a growth mindset, patience, positivity, and flexibility. The candidate must be capable of teaching any course from 6th grade Pre-Algebra through 8th grade Algebra I.

    Description of Position

    • Teach multiple sections of 6th, 7th, and/or 8th grade math classes
    • Serve as a Homeroom advisor for a group of middle school students
    • Help run division-wide clubs, electives, and/or standardized test prep sessions when needed
    • Write detailed narrative reports twice per year
    • Write recommendations in support of students’ high school applications (as needed)
    • Develop unit planners in line with the IB’s philosophy, including hands-on investigations and real-world projects
    • Foster a positive, inquiry-based learning environment
    • Support students outside of class as needed during the school day
    • Provide timely and consistent feedback to students and families

    Qualifications:

    • Teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting; experience teaching in an independent, international, or IB school is a plus
    • Degree in mathematics or education, and/or significant experience and skill with

  • Part-Time High School Placement Coordinator and Registrar (Start August 2024)

    International School of Brooklyn seeks an energetic, hardworking, self-directed part-time High School Placement Coordinator and Registrar for the 2024-25 school year and beyond.

    Job Description
    Reporting to the Middle School Director, the High School Placement Coordinator and Registrar provides leadership, information, and individualized support to our students and families to prepare them for and help them navigate their high school options. The person in this role also serves as the school’s registrar, with responsibility for managing student transcripts and other records.

    General Responsibilities:

    • Serve as an academic counselor for seventh and eighth grade families to educate them on all aspects of the high school search and application process.
    • Deliver presentations and maintain regular communication with parents throughout each stage of the process.
    • Conduct in person counseling meetings with each family in 7th Grade Spring and 8th Grade.
    • Fall, and hold additional individual family meetings as needed.
    • Manage and update application platforms (i.e. MySchools, Ravenna, Gateway, SAO databases) and school portals during admissions season with student data and required ex-missions materials.
    • Communicate effectively with high school admissions teams and the Department of Education.
    • Lead the preparation of students for interviews, writing samples, portfolios, etc…
    • Write unique recommendation letters for students as needed, and collaborate closely with our 8th Grade teachers on recommendation letter submissions.
    • Manage the registration and/or administration of relevant standardized tests, including the TACHS, SSAT, ISEE and SHSAT.
    • Track student absences for school visits and interviews and update ISB attendance.
    • Maintain up to date knowledge of high schools by attending Open Houses, Tours, and Information Sessions.
    • Be willing and able to cover classes and other supervisory periods when needed.
    • Participate in student life of the school community through activities.
    • As registrar, be responsible for generating and uploading transcripts to admissions portals, including those of students applying out from grades K-7.
    • Help maintain the school’s attendance and student grade records.
    • Assist in the completion of federal, state and city surveys as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

  • Middle School Counselor (Start August 2024)

    Job Description:
    Reporting to the Middle School Director, the Middle School Counselor provides individual counseling and referral for G6-G8 students as appropriate; and coordinates support with teachers, administrators, parents, and outside professionals. As a critical part of the students’ learning experience, the Middle School Counselor provides a range of direct and indirect services through the identification and intervention of students’ social/emotional needs. The Middle School Counselor will also be expected to participate in curriculum development for social-emotional learning throughout the Middle School, and co-teach our Health and Wellness classes.

    Qualifications & Skills:
    The applicant for this position should have:

    • Master’s Degree or higher in psychology, social work, mental health or school counseling.
    • Minimum 2 years of counseling experience with adolescent children and families.
    • Substantial experience in classroom management techniques.
    • Strong behavioral therapy skills, with experience in individual therapy, group therapy, social skills training, and consultation/collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

    • Develop and support a comprehensive Middle School counseling program that aims to promote student well-being, provides preventative services and responds to students’ emotional, psychological, academic, and social needs.
    • Assume a leadership role in collaborations to support positive mental health and design programs to meet the needs of students, families, and faculty.
    • As a member of the Student Support Team, work collaboratively with the Lower School Counselor, Learning Specialists, Division Director, and other members of faculty, staff, and administration.
    • Advance the school’s commitment to inclusion and anti-racism and ensure that every student is seen, heard, treated fairly, and protected across their multiple identities.
    • Anticipate challenges to belonging and identify structures to strengthen equity and inclusion, with a cultural competency comfort level to collaborate on subsequent interventions and accountability models.
    • Develop strong relationships with external professionals to ensure that students are connected with resources when needed or appropriate, including referrals for support.
    • Participation in school community activities and events, such as curriculum night and

    • Practice culturally sensitive advising and counseling and stay up-to-date on best practices.
    • Execute student risk assessments based on best professional practices and use data to identify student issues, needs, and challenges.
    • Conduct informal/formal assessments of children as well as implement, update, and collaborate with communication.

    Teacher Support:

    • Provide classroom support as needed via collaboration with teachers to plan and co-lead
      group activities in the classroom.
    • Develop action plans in collaboration with teachers and administrators for students needing support.
    • Create, implement, and model behavioral plans and interventions.

    Family Support:

    • Offer parent workshops and faculty training on topics related to child development social-emotional learning and provide support on student psychological concerns.
    • Provide consultation and outreach for families in a culturally responsive manner.
    • Co-treat with other therapists purposefully.
    • Coordinate and communicate with outside therapists as needed.

  • Librarian (Start August 2024)

    Job Description and Responsibilities
    The Librarian at International School of Brooklyn is a vital member of the educational team, dedicated to nurturing a passion for reading and enhancing information literacy skills in students from Pre-K through 8th Grade. The ISB Library is multilingual and holds over 15,000 print titles, a digital collection, and databases. Collaborating closely with teachers, the Librarian integrates library resources into the curriculum, conducts library classes, and oversees the day-to-day functions of the library. The Librarian works in tandem with the Head Librarian. This position is full-time and follows the academic year schedule.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with classroom educators to design and teach engaging learning experiences.
    • Teach and assess information literacy skills, with a focus on ethical use of information and citation.
    • Teach fixed classes for Pre-K through 5th grade and flexible classes for grades 6-8.
    • Provide reader’s advisory services to students and families.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of classic and current children’s and middle-grade literature.
    • Model a commitment to respect diversity, equity, and inclusion in collection development and within the learning community.
    • Empower the learning community to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
    • Provide readers’ advisory services for adolescents and adults in the community.
    • Champion equity, access, and intellectual freedom for library users.
    • Collaborate in managing daily library operations, including cataloging, circulation, and creating displays.
    • Assist in creating and managing digital publications and online presence.
    • Assist with collection development, including policies, acquisitions, and weeding.
    • Lead or participate in clubs and programs such as book clubs, author/illustrator visits, and parent workshops.
    • Supervise students in the library after school and provide support as needed.

    Candidates will have:

    • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited university, or be
      actively working towards one preferred.
    • Experience working in a school library or with youth.
    •  Fluency in French and/or Spanish is preferred but not required.

  • Lower School French Teacher (Start August 2024)

    Candidates should be able to use their expertise in elementary education to confidently lead a classroom. Teachers at ISB are expected to work collaboratively in lesson planning to implement a strong and engaging PYP IB curriculum. Candidates should hold a degree in Education and have at least two years of head teaching experience in a Lower School setting and be fluent in French.

    Qualification requirements:
    Candidates should enjoy creating learning experiences designed to nurture the development of the whole child in a strong inquiry-based learning environment. Experience working with elementary-aged children with an ability to display effective classroom management is important in this role. Duties include teaching French literacy in diverse contexts, mathematics, social studies, and science in French and through the lens of the unit of inquiry. Teachers in this role should enjoy working closely with the grade-level team and have excellent communication skills. Knowledge of PYP is a plus.   • Seasonal Substitute Teacher

    Seasonal substitutes/school aides provide support across the school on a daily basis and work approximately 35 hours per week. This position reports to the Division Directors and Enrichment Programs Director. Candidates should have a college degree, experience working with children, and demonstrate some proficiency using digital or online platforms when necessary (e.g. Google Classroom, Zoom, etc.). The most desirable candidates will have proven effectiveness in the classroom as a teacher or teacher’s aide. Proficiency in French or Spanish is also a plus.

    Salary Range: $25/hour

  • Facilities Associate

    ISB seeks a dedicated and mission-driven full-time Facilities Associate for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. This is an ideal position for someone who is excited about working in a school and has some experience in facilities, operations, or maintenance in an education setting. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Associate will help keep the success of our students and staff as a focus by helping to maintain a clean and safe learning environment.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, offices, furnishings, and equipment as well as school entrances and exterior walkways.
    • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas and as assigned by the Facilities Manager and Operations Manager in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations.
    • Remove snow and ice by shoveling, plowing, and/or sanding walks all affected areas.
    • Facilities Associate must be on stand-by during forecasted winter storms.
    • Monitor inventory of supplies and facilities equipment and work with the Facilities Team to re-order supplies as needed.
    • Help improvement and seasonal maintenance during school breaks.
    • Restock necessary supplies in bathrooms and common areas.
    • Work with the Facilities team to plan setup and breakdown for special events.
    • Provide coverage for the front desk and security when necessary.
    • Assemble classroom furniture.
    • Accept and coordinate deliveries.
    • Perform assignments relating to ensuring the school is able to safely open and function when assigned. This includes working cooperatively with other school staff during emergency operations and drills.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Facilities Manager.
    • Be willing and able to be on call for emergencies 24/7 as needed.

    Assist in tasks such as planting and caring for perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, and turf. Assist in preparation of soil and seed beds, weeding, mulching, and assist in repairing damaged planted areas, fertilizing, and watering plants.

    Demands of the Job:
    While performing the duties of this job, the Facilities Associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, complete physical work for short periods during inclement weather, stand for extended periods of time and travel up and down stairs. Carry heavy equipment and objects on level surfaces, ladders, and/or stairways. The Facilities Associate must also have the flexibility to work occasional weekends, evening and holidays.

    Work Schedule:
    Monday – Friday from 8am-4pm. The schedule is subject to change by the direct supervisor.

    ISB seeks a full-time Lower School Spanish General Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Candidates should be able to use their expertise in elementary education to confidently lead a classroom.
