Our Capital Initiatives focus on specific investments and priorities that our community has identified through the ISB Strategic Plan: Vision 2021. Part of the Strategic Plan focuses on how we can be innovative in providing the best possible learning experiences for our students while making strategic investments in our school and its future. These new Capital Initiatives would give our students new and enriching experiences in outdoor education and STEM.

We aim to raise $500,000 to fund these initiatives. In Phase One of the campaign, we raised $244,000 towards this goal and were able to commence the first portion of the yard work. In Phase Two, we aim to raise an additional $256,000 to complete the yard and further invest in our STEM program by renovating the science laboratory and upgrading our STEM educational materials.

Phase Two

The next $256,000 raised will be spent:

  • Investing in imaginative play spaces
  • Creating the climbing wall
  • Completing the yard space with outdoor learning areas and plantings
  • Creating the learning garden
  • Renovating the science classroom to transform the space into the STEM lab
  • Purchasing and investing in STEM equipment (microscopes, robotics, legos, and more)

When will the funds be put to use?

The funds will be put to use immediately to begin Phase Two of the Capital Initiatives. Once we raise the funds, we will be able to commence work, and our hope is to complete these projects over the course of the Spring and Summer 2020.

What is the difference between the Annual Fund for Excellence and the Capital Initiatives and why does ISB need both?

The Fund for Excellence is used each year to support ISB’s core values during the current year. It provides funding for field trips, professional development, and classroom resources. Similarly to all independent schools, tuition only covers the foundation of ISB’s operations. The Fund for Excellence allows ISB to further support every aspect of an ISB education, giving our students unique and exceptional opportunities to learn and grow into knowledgeable, compassionate, action-oriented leaders and adventurers. Gifts to the Fund for Excellence are put to use immediately to support the current year of operations.

Capital Initiatives go above and beyond the Fund for Excellence to support specific improvements that have been identified within our Strategic Plan. The gifts made towards Capital Initiatives enhance teaching and learning with specific investments in our program. ISB’s last capital campaign, the Campaign for Today and Tomorrow concluded in June of 2016. The money it raised was used to outfit the North Building and make physical improvements to the West Building, including building the Learning Commons.

We ask that you continue to support the Annual Fund for Excellence and consider a gift in addition to supporting these new Capital Initiatives.
